Financial Assistance Services provides the means for students to pursue their post-secondary educational endeavors. By providing students with the financial assistance needed to help cover the costs of obtaining a higher education, we are helping to make dreams come true each and every day.

St. Petersburg College (SPC) takes pride in helping students finish what they start, therefore assisting students with the financial aid process is critical in getting the student started in the best possible position to succeed. SPC is seeking a dynamic and energetic Assistant Director, Financial Assistance Services at the Seminole campus for our fast-paced financial assistance services department.

The Assistant Director (AD) assists the Director in overseeing general financial aid operations and is the face of the FAS department at the campus level. The AD will manage staff members; coordinate and facilitate trainings for FAS staff and others at his/her respective campus; assist students and parents in person, via phone and email with a full spectrum of financial aid related matters; and provide more detailed advising for both students and parents alike. A thorough understanding of the FAFSA, verification, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) are just a few items that the AD will need to be familiar with. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who has strong critical thinking skills and who can learn new systems and processes fairly easy. PeopleSoft Student Administrative System experience is a plus.

This position will be called upon to assist other campuses from time to time and participate in outreach and default prevention initiatives in the surrounding communities as well.

The candidate will collect, review and verify financial aid & academic records submitted by students as well as verify eligibility for Federal and State Programs. Prior financial aid experience is a must. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service experience is also required.

To be a strong candidate for consideration, we are looking for someone who:
• Has 3 years of well-rounded financial aid experience;
• Has a minimum of 1 year of supervisory; experience preferably running a campus financial aid office;
• Is prepared to work in a fast-paced environment and interact with diverse populations and cultures;
• Is innovative, passionate, and creative enough to help remove barriers and help staff and students succeed;
• Is a self-starter;
• Is willing to work in a team environment to solve problems;
• Possesses excellent customer service skills;
• Has a positive outlook and attitude;
• Able to de-escalate tense situations;

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field to assigned area, plus appropriate coursework. Master's degree is preferred.

One (1) year of management experience with some background in college financial aid work. Training in college counseling, business administration, accounting and data processing beneficial.
