Job Description:

The Financial Aid Advisor awards, processes, and verifies financial aid and scholarship funds as appropriate for an assigned student population. Serves as back up to the Coordinator of Scholarships.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in related field.
One year of experience in financial aid, admissions, advising, or other enrollment services functions.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience processing financial aid files in a State University System.Experience with Banner Student Information System.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and eligibility requirements related to student financial aid.

Knowledge of high school and state college curriculum requirements.
Knowledge of or ability to learn Banner Student Information System and Banner document management system.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related
information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects while meeting close deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, students, parents, community partners and the general public.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to diffuse and respond professionally to stressful situations and difficult people.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to communicate with others to convey information accurately and effectively.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Essential Job Duties:

Assists in the overall planning, development, and administration of a comprehensive financial aid program for assigned group of students.

Navigates Banner, packages awards, and verifies funds. Accurately processes applications and corrections through federal and state software following federal methodology.

Reviews and tracks application documents to determine eligibility for financial assistance from various state, federal, and institutional programs.

Provides direct assistance and serves as back up for all Admissions Merit scholarship programs including, but not limited to, the President's Gold & Silver Scholarships, the Blue & Green out of state merit scholarships, and the PTK scholarship.

Counsels students and parents on the availability of various forms of financial aid and scholarships.

Assists with conducting entrance and exit interviews with student borrowers, advising students as to their specific rights and responsibilities under the federal loan programs.

Provides assistance to all student and parent inquiries including walk-ins at the front desk, e-mail, and telephone.

Collaborates daily with the Office of Registration and Records, Admissions, Cashiers' Office, and other academic and administrative departments.
