ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
This position is under the supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid at USF Health. The advisor will be a member of the team of financial aid advisors providing services to all students of USF Health. The primary responsibility processing of aid for DPT and MD students but will provide services to all colleges at USF Health.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Financial Aid Advisor provides direct guidance and counseling services for potential and current students and interprets regulations, reviews petitions for extenuating circumstances and adjusting awards as determined necessary to comply with federal, state and university policy. The advisor also conducts financial aid and financial literacy workshops for students, staff, parents, and the community at large. This position oversees the daily processing of all documents submitted to the office through the use of a digital imaging system. This position requires considerable contact with potential and current students through individual interviews, group meetings and workshops. This contact requires demonstrated human relations and communication skills. The advisor is expected to possess extensive knowledge about college, state, and federal policies and laws related to financial aid. The advisor must be able to respond effectively to potential students who may be confused or demanding.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages the flow, security, and confidentiality of all documents received and verifies the accuracy of applicant information and files in accordance with federal, state and institutional guidelines. Research and formulate responses to student/parent inquiries.
• Reviews confidential information from applicant files to adjust awards and loan records; refers students who are not in compliance with verification requests but have received funds to the appropriate areas; and assists students in correcting excessive borrowing situations when they occur as well as returning to lender the portion of loan that exceeds federal limits.
• Serves as an information resource to address any issues relating to compliance and financial aid and effectively communicates with other USF student services staff or administrators, guarantor agencies, other schools, students and parents to resolve loan data conflicts. Provide Financial Literacy counseling to students.
• Administers and process financial aid, including data entry of transactions through electronic transfer and manual input.
• Reviews and evaluates request for professional judgment exceptions and make appropriate adjustments as determined necessary to comply with Federal, State and University Policy.
• Produces and edits the regular publication of summary reports and grant/program proposals.
• Consults with associate director regarding policies, trends, and program needs following specific instructions. Makes recommendations for improvement to overall processes. Provides support for quality assurance for financial aid.
• Develops and presents outreach activities, including but not limited to, workshops, events, and presentations. May include work after hours or weekends.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:
• This position requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with a minimum of one year of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education
PREFERRED:
• A Master’s degree with one to three years (within the last 3 years) experience administering Title IV aid and supervision in a Financial Aid Office preferred.
