Job Title: Assistant Director Scholarships and Financial Aid
Department: Scholarships and Financial Aid
Reports To: Director of Scholarships and Financial Aid
FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY Under supervision of Director of Scholarships and Financial Aid, assists in monitoring specific functions of Scholarship and Financial Aid, which include customer service, scholarships, loans, and database.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Counsels, packages, and certifies financial aid awards for visiting students and summer study abroad programs and alpha I-Q.
• Administers the scholarship program (awarding, reconciling, posting, summarizing, preparation of materials for committee, etc.).
• Assists Director in reporting to various entities, including ad -hoc reports, internal audit(s) and reporting.
• Administers Loan repayment assistance program by reviewing applicants eligibility and preparing check requests.
• Processes refunds of student loan proceeds.
• Keeps up to date with federal regulations and procedures for financial aid; attends seminars as necessary.
• Prepares and submits reports to outside regulatory agencies. Reviews report data to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and serves as primary contact for agency questions about the submitted reports, including resolving of all submission errors.
• Assist with monthly direct loan reconciliations.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for supervising the department in Director's absence.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum of 2 years financial aid or related field desired. Must be detailed oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment; able to interact effectively with all levels of constituents. PC literate with word processing, Windows 95, Office 97 and Word, and database (Banner) desired. Interpersonal skills which demonstrate a service oriented attitude.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math essentials

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Occasional light to moderate lifting from floor level, at waist, and above shoulders required. Infrequent bending and stooping necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.

Fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work the general business schedule of the College (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus occasional evenings and weekends as necessary. Some travel necessary for training.
